The development of the Canadian Pacific Railway resulted in more settlers heading to the west. With a booming population, a Mounties' duties grew

to include distributing mail, delivering farming advice and keeping population records. If a visitor came to town, it was the responsibility of the local North West Mounted Police to make a note. The Canadian Heritage Journal Collection Museum in Montreal has in its possession a Rounds Journal from Corporal Kent. In that Journal is the following entry and a possible clue:

"Witness, J.Taylor, states the fight erupted after another gentleman placed his hands on a bar maid - and that's when the confrontation started. A gentleman who wished to be referred to as "The Kid" says the situation was under control, and that the injuries the man received should serve as a good reminder to be a gentleman around women."
